Volunteers to be remembered
A commemoration to mark the 25th anniversary of the deaths of IRA
volunteers, Gerard McGlynn and Seamus Harvey will be held this
coming Sunday evening at the spot where both men were killed by a
premature explosion.
The event will take place at the former customs site at the
Castlefin road, not far from Castlederg and on the Donegal border
with Tyrone.
Local Sinn Fein councillor Charlie McHugh called for ``all
republicans in the area together with the friends of Gerard and
Seamus'' to attend the commemoration.
Councillor McHugh said, ``August is a very poignant month for
republicans in Tyrone, a month full of anniversaries. Indeed, the
anniversary of Padraig O'Seanachan falls this very week as well.
On Sunday evening at 7pm, the Tyrone National Graves Association
and Sinn Fein in the Derg area, and from Donegal, would very much
welcome a large attendance to remember these two men who died in
1973, these men who gave their lives for Irish freedom.''
Commemorations to mark the 25th anniversary of the deaths of IRA
volunteers Dan McAnallen and Patrick Quinn will be held this
coming weekend in both Eglish and Edendork. Both men were killed
in Pomeroy in 1973.
A ceremony at the graveside of Dan McAnallen in Eglish will take
place on Saturday evening (15 August) after 7.30 mass, while the
Edendork ceremony at the republican plot where young Patsy Quinn
was buried will take place on Sunday afternoon at 3.30pm.
Tyrone National Graves Chairperson, Brian Cauley, called on local
people to attend both commemorations.
