MAGUIRE, Dorothy; MEEHAN, Maura (26th Ann). In memory of my mother Maura Meehan and sister Aunt Dorothy Maguire who were murdered on 23 October 1971. The mother I hardly knew. It was on October 23rd, I heard 9 shots being fired I ran to see where they came from and I heard my father's cry. My father's friend called and said: ``I have bad news to tell. The British army shot your wife''. I choked as I tried to yell, Jesus, Lord Our Savour, help us through this day. My mother said she would stay with us and every night we pray. But now she's gone so far away. A million miles or more. I wish she could come back to us. And be happy as before. Her sister Dorothy was in the car. And she was murdered too. The Brits had taken two innocent lives as they o often do. So if you are from Belfast and think that you are free remember the next bullet could be for you or me.
