Drugs fightback continues

Local Sinn Féin representative Daithí Doolin has commended the Dublin communities of Ringsend and Irishtown following a successful Drug Awareness Week in the area.

The week was organised by Ringsend and District Response to Drugs (RDRD) in an effort to increase local awareness around the the issue of drug abuse and to encourage debate about tackling the problem.

Events included a public debate on the issue of a clinic to treat local addicts, a football match between recovering addicts and the casts of Glenroe and Fair City, and the staging of the play `Taking Liberties', which deals with the issue of drug addiction.

Paying tribute to the work of the organisers Daithí Doolin said: ``It is important for local communities not to become isolated but to work together to find solutions to their problems.'' He said he hoped other communities would look to the experience of Ringsend and organise similar events.
