Birmingham Six slam compo offer
The Birmingham Six have blasted the latest compensation offers
from the British government as ``derisory and insulting'', after
meeting the British Home Secretary Jack Straw on Wednesday 23
July.
The varying levels of interim compensation and the lengthy delay
in final settlement has enraged the group, who have urged the
British government to settle, and acknowledge the men's innocence
for which they were imprisoned from 1974 to 1991.
Hugh Callaghan, Billy Power, Paddy Hill and Gerry Hunter handed a
letter of protest to Jack Straw, demanding a final settling of
their compensation for wrongful imprisonment, loss of earning and
suffering and expense incurred by their relatives.
The group remain adamant the suffering inflicted on them, which
included enduring long-term imprisonment and the attendent
physical and pyschological injury on themselves and their
families, merits at least £1 million each.
