Prisoner's family calls for parole

THE FAMILY OF BELFASTMAN Peter Rodgers who is serving 40 years in Portlaoise Prison have called on the Dublin Government to grant him parole to visit his sister, Margaret Lynch, who is critically ill.

A letter supporting the family's request has been sent to the Dublin government by Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams.

``It is essential that Ms Lynch is encouraged to fight her illness and a visit from her brother will help her,'' said Adams.

He pointed out that while Rodgers is not eligible for parole to visit his sick sister he would be allowed parole were she to die. ``This is both inconsistent and cruel'' he said.
