Road in Portadown after the RUC beats residents off their
streets.

Tuesday 8 July
The INLA issues a threat to all Orangemen marching through
nationalist areas. Sinn Féin calls for them to retract the
threat.
Rioting continues throughout many parts of the Six Counties, with
crown forces' personnel coming under petrol-bomb and gun attack.
2,500 plastic bullets have been fired in 48 hours, leaving
several people seriously injured.
NATO leaders meeting in Madrid invite Poland, Hungary and the
Czech Republic to apply for membership.
