Paras back in Coalisland

The announcement that the Parachute Regiment is to return to Coalisland in east Tyrone has brought a strom of protest from the local community, five years after that regiment ran amok through the town centre, shooting and badly wounding three people.

Within days of the Paras shooting up the town centre in 1992 they returned to wreck several pubs using long-handled batons and terrorising customers and staff. Six Paras were later charged with assault, disorderly behaviour and criminal damage.
