Phoblacht's guide to family entertainment over the holiday period

Theatre

The Abbey Theatre in Dublin presents Patrick Kavanagh's classical play Tarry Flynn. Set in Monaghan in the 1930's, it tells the story of Tarry, a poor farmer poet, and his quest for big fields, young women and the meaning of life. Kavanagh's much loved comic novel is brought to life by this adaption by Conall Morrison and a multi-talented cast.

The Grand Opera House offers Jack and the Beanstalk. Starring Su Pollard, May McFettridge, Scorpio and Ivan Little. Continuing until 17 January, tickets are available between £8.00 and £14.00.

Mother Goose at the Gaiety, South King Street, Dublin, starring June Rodgers and illusionist Richard de Vere. Also appearing are the Carter Twins. Such is the pulling power of the traditional pantomime that tickets selling strong even before the opening.
