Put up your Dukes
One of Fine Gael's certainties for an important cabinet position
in a forthcoming coalition government is the Kildare deputy Alan
Dukes, who has been presented as one of the party's bright young
intellectuals since entering Leinster House last year.
As assessment of his extraordinary capacity can be made from a
discussion he had with Athy Sinn Féin councillor Paddy Wright
during the recent general election campaign.
Wright was making the point to Dukes that, as an elected
representative, he objected to being banned from RTE under
Section 31 and went on to point out the anomaly of the fact that
most people in the South could see republican spokespersons on
BBC.
Dukes: ``I'm not interested in the BBC.''
Wright: ``Well your leader, Garret FitzGerald, seems very
interested in getting on the BBC.''
Dukes: ``Would you ever fuck off?''
