Saoirse march for Omagh
NATIONALISTS from across the Six Counties are being urged to
attend a Saoirse rally in the Tyrone town of Omagh this Sunday 7
December.
Sinn Fein vice-President Pat Doherty and talks negotiator Gerry
Kelly along with Saoirse's Six County Chairperson Martin Meehan
will lead the high profile rally.
Chairperson of the local Saoirse branch, Eugene McKernan pointed
out that for every prisoner at least ten other people are
directly affected. He said, ``December is dedicated to our
prisoners and this march is to highlight the issues affecting
those still in prison and who see no obvious sign of release.''
McKernan expressed both his delight at securing the six county
mobilisation for Omagh, ``The people of Tyrone and the host
district of Omagh should take this opportunity to express their
solidarity with the prisoners.''
Meanwhile in a meeting at Stormont with the Confidence Building
Sub-Committee a Sinn Fein delegation underlined the centrality of
the release of all republican political prisoners to the peace
process.
The submission to the Sub-Committee called for the ``speedy
dismantling of the old agenda of conflict'' and a ``new agenda of
change.'' Dubliner Sean Crowe, a member of the Sub-Committee talks
team said that ``immediate movement on the issue would act as a
first sign that the British government would bring to the peace
process an acknowledgement of responsibility.''
Sunday's parade will assemble at 2pm on the Gortin Road beside
Greenhill Cemetery and march to the Courthouse on it's way to the
rally in the centre of town. Anyone wishing to attend should
contact their local Saoirse committee.
