`Scaip an CRU' a deir Sinn Féin
Chuir Sinn Féin an éileamh chun an CRU a scaipeadh agus chun
seirbhís phóilíneacht phobail a chur ar bun os comhair an phobail
ag preas-ócáid i mBéal Feirste ar an 21 Lúnasa.
Ag labhairt ag an preas-ócáid bhí Cathaoirleach an phairtí sna Sé
Chontae Gearóid O hEara, Dodie McGuinness ón Ard Chomhairle agus
an Comhairleoir Alex Maskey, Comhairle Cathrach Béal Feirste.
chéad chéim ar aghaidh dar le Sinn Féin ná scaipeadh an CRU
féin. Níl aon dóchas ag náisiúnaithe san CRU a dúirt Dodie
McGuinness. Bhí an CRU páirteach i maruithe seicteacha, ag
comhoibriú le scuainí báis dílseacha. Thug siad eolas do na
grúpaí seo agus, i gcásanna áirithe dhírigh siad na grúpaí
dílseacha chun náisiúnaithe a mharú.
``Tá an CRU ciontaithe ag eagraíochataí Cearta Daonna
idirnáisiúnta'' a dúirt McGuinness. ``Níl ról aige i bpóilíneacht
inár dtír sa todhchaí.''
Ní raibh an CRU ina ghnáth-fhórsa phóilíneachta ón uair a
bhunaíodh é.
``Ba chóir do sheirbhís ceart a bheith freagrach don phobal ar
fad. Is fórsa aontachtash é an CRU do stát aontachtach'' arsa
McGuinness.
Dúirt urlabhraithe Sinn Féin go mbeidh scaipeadh an CRE mar
príóreacht sna cainteann uile-pháirtí ag tosú ar 15 Meán Fomhair.
Tá Sinn Féin ag éileamh: go ndéantar an CRU a dhí-armáil
láithreach go dtí go scaiptear iad ar bhonn rialta agus
aontaithe; go n-aistarraingeofar an CRU ó cheantair náisiúnacha
líthreach. Tá an páirtí ag éileamh chomh maith go gcuirfear ar
ceal athdheisiú na mbeairicí CRU agus go nathdhíreoafar an
airgead chun obair i measc an phobail i gcúrsaí oideachais,
sláinte, agus oideachas. .

`Scrap the RUC' says Sinn Féin
Sinn Féin has demanded the RUC be disbanded and a Community
Policing Service drawn from all sections of society be
established in its place.
Speaking at a Sinn Féin press conference in Belfast on Thursday
21 August, Ard Comhairle members Dodie McGuinness and Councillor.
Alex Maskey and Party Chair Gearoid O'hEara outlined party
proposals on future policing, beginning with the need for RUC
disbandment.
McGuinness said that RUC involvement with loyalist death squads,
including responsibility for sectarian and political murders, and
supplying and directing these same death squads meant the RUC had
no credibility with northern nationalists.
``It has been indicted by all the leading Human Rights bodies in
the world,'' she said. ``It has no role to play in the future
policing of our comunity, and should be disbanded.''
McGuinness pointed out the critieria for normal policing had not
been met by the RUC since its inception.
``To fulfill the functions of a normal policing service, it should
be accountable to the whole community. The RUC does not do this.
It is a unionist force policing a unionist state for unionists.''
It was stressed that RUC disbandment will be a priority at the
September all-party talks, and that an independent body be
established to monitor this and the creation of a new service
acceptable and accountable to the whole community.
Ahead of this the Sinn Féin team demanded the RUC be withdrawn
immediately from nationalist areas, arguing that high profile
patrolling of nationalist areas was incompatible with the peace
process. It also called for refurbishment programmes for barracks
to be redirected into community, health and education projects.
