Fuascailt picket Downing Street

Fuascailt, the Irish Political Prisoners Campaign, staged a high-profile picket outside 10 Downing Street on 3 August to demand the immediate release of all Irish political prisoners as a ``confidence-building measure to underpin the histroic IRA cessation of July 1997.''

Highlighting the atrocious jail conditions under which some prisoners have been held after the 1994 cessation, a spokesman for the group stressed there should be phased release of prisoners if the British government is to show it is serious about securing a lasting peace settlement.
