Europe’s Plan B

The people have spoken. The Lisbon Treaty is dead. Now it’s time for Plan B. While some advocates of the treaty have attempted to castigate the electorate for rejecting it, more reasonable voices have called it right. There is no crisis. Ireland will not be thrown out of the European Union. In fact, Ireland will continue to be at its heart. Crucially, its political leaders are indicating that it’s time to listen, reflect and engage.
