New mural unveiled at Beechmount

A new mural in Beechmount, West Belfast, was unveiled at the weekend by veteran republican Billy Herrity.

Local Sinn Féin councillor Tom Hartley was the main speaker at the ceremony, which was attended by up to 200 local republicans.

Sean Moore of the Beechmount Commemoration Committee explained that the committee came up with the idea of putting the faces of local republican dead on the mural "as a way humanising the Volunteers and activists who everyone heard of but didn't know.

"The idea was to put a face to the name."
