London marks 31st anniversary

A series of events have been organised this week and last in London to mark the 31st anniversary of the Derry massacre, under the theme Bloody Sunday, The State On Trial.

On Thursday 23 January, the University of North London hosted a special screening of Jimmy McGovern's Channel 4 film, Sunday, which was followed by a discussion with Pictured are Jimmy, Siobhain Maguire, Maura Young ( Bloody Sunday relatives) , and Steve Geoghain ( Gaslight productions, Derry).

Members of the Irish community in London are today, Thursday, due to hand in a letter to British Prime Minister Tony Blair requesting that he direct the Ministry of Defence to disclose the pjhotos and helicopter film that was taken by the British Army in Derry on Bloody Sunday.

The commemorative events will conclude with a Cuban-Irish social night, featuring Omar Puente and guests in the Haringey Irish Centre on Friday.
