Regional regeneration a priority issue

Sinn Féin Chairperson, Mitchel McLaughlin has said that the party's upcoming Conference on Regional Regeneration will be a reflection of growing concerns over the ``economic exclusion currently experienced in the Northwest region''.

``The conference, which will be attended by Sinn Féin elected representatives and activists from the Northwest region of Ireland, will discuss a broad range of economic, social and political issues that play a fundamental part of life in the region,'' he said.

``The marginalisation and exclusion that have been the dominant features of the Northwest landscape demands a response which will safely satisfy communities from Tyrone to Sligo, from Derry to Donegal, from Fermanagh to Leitrim and on into Cavan and Monaghan. Such a response must be based on the implementation of radical policies that reflect the all-Ireland nature of the problems that exist and the specific measures that need to be taken.''

The conference, which will be opened by Derry City Mayor Cathal Crumley, will take place at the Calgach Centre, Derry City, on Saturday 11 November at 10am.
