Belfast Bill of Rights meeting

Brice Dickson, Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission (HRC), has been invited to give the main address at a forthcoming Seminar on Human Rights at St Mary's University College on Belfast's Falls Rd. The seminar, organised by the West Belfast-based victims trauma group VAST in conjunction with the HRC, will take place on Thursday 9th of November at 7pm and all are welcome.

There will be speakers from Sinn Féin, the SDLP, Alliance and the Women's Coalition, and members of the public will have an opportunity to query the HRC and the politicians around the new Bill of Rights.

Breandan Ó Lochlainn, Chairperson of VAST, said: ``Given the pending Bill of Rights, we in VAST see this as a very significant event in our programme and an excellent opportunity to allow public input into the formulation of the Bill. We would like to see a strong presence at this seminar of people from Belfast so that they can both question the Commission on its work and examine the politicians on their attitude to the issue of human rights. We have a very strong line-up for the seminar, with leading politicians from all of the main parties as well as commissioners from the Human Rights Commission itself. If you feel strongly about human rights, then please come along.''
