McElduff confident of victory

On Wednesday, 12 April, the people of Omagh will go to the polls to elect a new district councillor. Sinn Féin Assembly member for West Tyrone, Barry McElduff, is challenging strongly to be elected to fill what is a Sinn Féin seat, vacated by party colleague Cathal Quinn. Despite Sinn Féin attempts to have the seat filled by co-option, unionist parties forced the by-election.

The Queen's graduate and father of three is a fluent Irish speaker and has a keen interest in the GAA. He is calling on the people of the area to back the party's call for the reinstation of the political institutions under the Good Friday Agreement. Locally, he has been closely identified with the campaign to provide isolated rural homes with running water. McElduff has pledged to campaign for major improvements to Omagh's roads infrastructure, for accessible health care for all, for the creation of sustainable local employment and for the full restoration of student grants.
