[An Phoblacht]

British militarisation continues

The British army is engaged in a major programme of refortification in South Armagh.

According to the South Armagh Farmers and Residents Committee (SAFRC), the British army began a programme of building work on their hilltop spy-posts in the past weeks and ``the work has been steady''.

Toni Carragher of SAFRC told An Phoblacht that ``the British have now built several smaller observation points at Glassdrummond, with extra surveillance cameras and other electronic equipment''.

Added Carragher: ``Clearly the British are not prepared to honour their part of the Good Friday Agreement - security has not been reduced in the South Armagh area.''
